Task Force Charge Letter
February 23, 2024
Dear Colleagues
This spring, the Chancellor and Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor (CP/EVC) charged two committees, the Budget Advisory and the Revenue Augmentation Committees, with providing advice and recommendations on various campus budget issues and identifying opportunities to maximize revenue generation. In early July, the Chancellor included the following in a message to employees, “I am asking the co-chairs of the BAC and the Revenue Augmentation Committee to establish a small subcommittee to work over the summer to develop initial ideas for cross-divisional or whole-campus level reorganizations the campus should consider.”
Process Improvement Task Force
To supplement these efforts, I have accepted the proposal for the creation of a Process Improvement task force reporting to the subcommittee. This task force will identify opportunities at a more tactical level to improve existing processes at UC Santa Cruz, toward enhancing effectiveness and efficiency, removing obstacles in our operations, eliminating waste, lowering expenditures, encouraging new ideas, and improving employee productivity and satisfaction.
Objectives
- Engage academic and administrative staff in identifying process improvements.
- Assess the impact and feasibility of proposed improvements.
- Identify resources needed to implement proposed improvements.
- Prioritize and submit process improvement recommendations for review by the Budget Advisory and Revenue Augmentation committees and approval by the Chancellor and CP/EVC.
- Once approved, develop an implementation plan that includes engagement of process and subject-matter experts and strategies for monitoring outcomes.
- Implement, monitor, and report on the improvements.
Timeline: The work of this task force will begin in FY25. Initial proposals will be developed during the Fall quarter. At the end of the FY, the task force will report on its progress toward informing future direction.
Thank you for your work on these important issues that will help support the long term financial sustainability of our campus.
Sincerely,
Cynthia K. Larive
Chancellor
