Vice Chancellor Ed Reiskin

Ed Reiskin has more than two decades of management experience in public service. Before joining UC Santa Cruz, he served as Oakland’s city administrator under Mayor Libby Schaaf. As the government’s top staff member, he oversaw the city’s departments and implementation of its policies. Reiskin served in local government for more than 22 years, beginning as an assistant to the city manager in Oakland during Mayor Jerry Brown’s administration. His expertise traverses diverse areas, including finance, infrastructure, transit, and public safety.

Reiskin was also the director of the Municipal Transportation Agency for the City and County of San Francisco, director of the San Francisco Department of Public Works, interim city administrator for the District of Columbia, and the district’s deputy mayor for Public Safety & Justice.

He earned a master’s of public administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, a master’s of business administration from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, and a bachelor’s of science in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Vice Chancellor Reiskin is currently a member of the University of California Executive Budget Committee, UCPath Executive Leadership Team Committee, and Community Safety Committee. He is an ex-officio member of the Santa Cruz METRO Transit District Board of Directions. At UC Santa Cruz, he is the co-chair of the University Space Committee, the IT Systems and Data Governance Committee, and the Budget Advisory Committee; and serves as a member of the Strategic Plan Implementation Committee, Westside Research Park Planning and Programming Committee, and the Audit, Compliance, Ethics and Risk Oversight Committee.

He lives in Santa Cruz County with his wife and three dogs.
